Improvement of Living Inconveniences such as Artificial Turf Installation at Eungbong Sports Park Tennis Court, Smart Smoking Booth Installation, Expansion of Public Parking Lots... Safety Enhancement including Installation of Protective Fences in Crowded Areas and Improvement of Traffic Safety Facilities in Child Protection Zones
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) has secured 2.4 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to promote community-focused policies such as installing artificial turf at the tennis courts in Eungbong Sports Park.
The detailed breakdown of the special grants secured by Seongdong-gu for the second half of the year includes ▲400 million KRW for installing artificial turf at the tennis courts in Eungbong Sports Park ▲400 million KRW for installing smart smoking booths ▲800 million KRW for expanding the public parking lot in Geumho-dong 1-ga ▲100 million KRW for installing protective fences in crowded areas ▲700 million KRW for improving traffic safety facilities in school zones.
With the recent increase in tennis court users, complaints regarding improvements to the tennis courts in Eungbong Sports Park have been rising. This funding will allow Seongdong-gu to meet the demand and interest of its residents. In addition to installing artificial turf, the district plans to improve the tennis courts to provide a more pleasant experience for residents.
Additionally, the 'Seongdong-style Smart Smoking Booth' will be installed to guarantee smokers' rights while preventing secondhand smoke exposure for non-smokers, creating a comfortable walking environment. The 'Seongdong-style Smart Smoking Booth' is equipped with negative pressure systems and air purification functions, preventing cigarette odors from clinging to clothes and smoke from escaping outside. These booths will be installed in areas with high foot traffic and many smokers, such as Seongsu-dong, significantly improving the inconveniences caused by smoking.
A public parking lot will be expanded in Geumho-dong 1-ga, a densely populated residential area with insufficient parking spaces. Once construction is completed, it is expected that parking inconveniences for residents will be greatly alleviated.
Furthermore, protective fences will be installed to ensure pedestrian safety at the former Sampyo site, now transformed into the Seongsu Culture and Arts Square, a representative cultural and leisure space in Seongdong-gu. As the area is expected to attract large crowds due to its transformation into a diverse cultural and leisure space, thorough preparations are being made in advance.
Moreover, budget has been secured to install and improve traffic safety facilities in school zones, creating safer conditions for children commuting to and from school. Facilities such as ground-level pedestrian signals, yellow carpets, and parking enforcement cameras will be installed within school zones to enhance children's pedestrian safety.
Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I am pleased to have secured the budget despite worsening revenue conditions due to decreased tax income," and added, "We will promote community-focused projects that directly impact the lives and safety of Seongdong residents so that they can take pride in living in Seongdong-gu."
