Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 7th that it conducted a pilot operation of the 'Visiting Jeonnam Health Bus' at Deulmal Hall in Moksadong-myeon for residents in medically vulnerable areas.
This 'Visiting Jeonnam Health Bus' was held for the second time since the visit to the village hall in Gyeommyeon Gajeong-ri on November 16th.
The 'Visiting Health Bus' project aims to eliminate regional disparities in medical services caused by the absence of medical institutions and to promote the health of residents.
The health bus is a large vehicle equipped with the latest devices such as a bone density scanner, electrocardiogram, dental treatment chair, and traditional Korean medical equipment.
Eight medical personnel, including public health doctors from Suncheon Medical Center and Gokseong-gun Health Medical Center, are participating in this project.
Medically vulnerable areas without hospitals within 5 km of the village are selected, and elderly residents are provided with medical, dental, and Korean medicine treatments, as well as health education and early dementia screening.
Medical treatment includes support for tests such as blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, body fat, ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and health consultations.
Dental treatment includes oral care, tartar removal, and fluoride application.
Korean medicine treatment offers acupuncture, moxibustion, and thermal therapy.
Additionally, early dementia screening, smoking cessation education, flu prevention, cold wave preparedness guidelines, and health education for chronic disease prevention such as hypertension and diabetes were conducted, receiving great response from residents.
A representative from the Gokseong-gun Health Medical Center said, “Through the Visiting Jeonnam Health Bus, we will provide high-quality health and medical services to residents in medically vulnerable areas and strive to make Gokseong a happier place for its citizens.”
The 'Visiting Jeonnam Health Bus' was selected as a project under the 2022 Local Population Extinction Response Fund.
After the pilot operation, the county plans to regularly operate the health bus in medically vulnerable villages starting in 2024.
