Naibec files patent application for new substance converting 'aging cells' into young cells

Naivek, a peptide fusion bio-specialized company, announced on the 7th that it has succeeded in developing an anti-aging peptide during the government-led 'Alchemist Project.' The related technology has also been patented to establish a barrier to entry.

The patent filed this time pertains to a peptide with anti-aging and aging-suppressing functions that increase the expression of biomarkers reduced in aging cells. According to the company, if various therapeutic substances using this peptide are commercialized, it will be possible to restore the function of oral tissues and muscle tissues whose functions have declined due to aging.

Since April last year, Naivek has been carrying out the 'Alchemist Project' task led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. Naivek is jointly promoting the 'Development of Dental Booster-based Anti-aging Technology' with Seoul National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Chungbuk National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, and Kyungpook National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation.

Generally, as aging progresses, differentiation and proliferation decrease at the cellular level, causing structural changes in specific molecules and alterations in reaction pathways. In the process of developing new substances that can reverse aging cells into young cells, Naivek succeeded in discovering an anti-aging peptide.

A Naivek official stated, “The world is facing rapid social structural changes due to population aging, and there is a need for active technology development not only to suppress aging but also to reverse it. In line with this, the World Health Organization (WHO) included aging as a disease with a disease code in the ICD-11 disease classification in 2018, recognizing aging as a preventable and treatable disease.”

He added, “We plan to actively utilize the anti-aging peptide developed through the national project not only for oral diseases but also for the prevention or treatment of muscle diseases. This patent will establish a barrier to entry in anti-aging research and serve as a stepping stone to enter the global market,” emphasizing the significance.

The Alchemist Project is a program by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy that selects and supports ultra-high difficulty industrial research and development (R&D) tasks with low chances of success as part of the industrial technology innovation plan.
