High Scores Achieved for Protection of Adult and Child Passengers
The Kia EV9 has received the highest rating from the European new car assessment certification body. Kia announced on the 7th that it earned the top rating of five stars from Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). This is the second time following the EV6, which also received five stars in the same evaluation last year. Both vehicles were built on the dedicated electric vehicle platform E-GMP.
The Euro NCAP test is a European new car assessment program that started in 1997. It conducts safety verification tests on cars sold in Europe and publishes the results annually.
The EV9 received the highest ratings in four categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, safety assist systems, and vulnerable road user (pedestrian and cyclist) safety. Euro NCAP evaluated that the vehicle’s body structure secured a safe space to protect passengers and the high-voltage battery during frontal and side collision tests, effectively safeguarding the driver and passengers.
In vehicle-to-vehicle and side collisions, the body design absorbs impact and protects the passenger compartment, earning the highest score in child protection as well. In the side collision test, the first-row center side airbag deployed to prevent secondary collisions between the driver and front passenger, resulting in a high score.
Additionally, the company explained that the EV9 received favorable evaluations for features such as the ‘automatic airbag deployment notification’ that informs emergency rescue centers when airbags deploy in an accident, the ‘multi-collision brake system’ that activates automatic braking upon collision, and lane departure prevention assist.
A Kia representative stated, “The EV9, which has continued to receive consecutive awards in Europe and has been nominated for the North American, European, and World Car of the Year awards?considered among the world’s top three automotive awards?has proven its excellent competitiveness in terms of safety as well. We will continue to prioritize customer safety and make groundbreaking advancements in product safety technology.”
