Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, announced that the Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held on the 5th at the Open Yard of Gangdong-gu Office.
To celebrate this Christmas, Gangdong-gu installed a large Nutcracker doll next to the Christmas tree with the meaning of "breaking bad energy and bringing good energy into 2024." The display will continue until January 19th next year, allowing all residents to enjoy the year-end atmosphere and hang hopeful messages on the tree.
Residents can also participate in the "Hanging Wish Cards" event by attaching messages expressing their wishes and hopes to the tree. In celebration of the Year of the Dragon 2024, this will be a time not only to write personal wishes but also to pray for the naming of the Godeok Bridge and the attraction of the GTX-D line for the development of Gangdong.
In addition to the Christmas tree, an eco-friendly special event will be showcased. On the first day of the lighting ceremony, an event will be demonstrated where pedaling a bicycle powers the tree lighting through self-generated electricity. From December 18th to 22nd, the event will be held for five days with prior registration for local elementary school students.
Lee Soo-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "I hope everyone comes to the Open Yard of the district office with their children to leave hopeful messages on the unique Christmas tree and enjoy the self-powered bicycle." She added, "Receiving the energy of the Blue Dragon next year, we will do our best with a 'serve first, then lead' attitude so that Gangdong-gu can grow bigger and stronger."
