People Power Party leader Kim Gi-hyeon and Innovation Committee Chairman In Yo-han each took a step back, averting a crisis over the 'mainstream sacrifice' innovation plan.
The two met at the National Assembly on the afternoon of the 6th, marking their first meeting in 19 days. They had a public conversation for about five minutes, followed by a 15-minute private discussion.
During the private meeting, Kim reportedly told Chairman In, "The party is moving dynamically thanks to the Innovation Committee's activities," and added, "You've worked hard so far, and I hope you continue to do well in the remaining period," according to Chief Spokesperson Park Jeong-ha's briefing.
Regarding Chairman In's earlier request to recommend him as the head of the nomination management committee, Kim said, "I fully empathize with your words made out of sincere desire to make the innovation successful," and added, "Please trust the leadership's will for innovation and leave it to us."
This reaffirmed Kim's position that he cannot accept Chairman In's request to be recommended as the nomination committee head if the leadership does not approve the 'mainstream sacrifice' innovation plan.
Kim stated, "I am confident that the proposed agenda items will help the party's innovation and victory in the general election," but added, "Please understand that there are matters that the Supreme Council can decide on, and strategic choices must be made during the nomination committee and election process, so we cannot accept them immediately."
He continued, "If you watch with a long breath, we will become a People Power Party that respects the will of the people and wins based on the innovation plan," and added, "The agenda you provided is innovative and has attracted much public attention. Since it is a task we can implement, we will consider how to proceed 'step by step.'"
In response, Chairman In said, "The Innovation Committee believes that restoring public trust is the most important for winning the general election and the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and we tried to reflect the people's will in the innovation plan," according to Innovation Committee member Jeong Hae-yong.
Chairman In emphasized, "I thought that the sacrifice of responsible individuals should be prioritized above all to restore public trust, and that thought remains unchanged."
He added, "Through today's meeting, I confirmed Leader Kim's willingness to sacrifice and innovate," and said, "If the Innovation Committee has achieved half of the results so far, I expect the party to accomplish the remaining half of the success."
Previously, Leader Kim and Chairman In had conflicts over the innovation plan involving 'non-candidacy or running in difficult districts by leadership, senior members, and pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) figures.'
