Unification Minister: "North Korea is rushing to highlight Kim Jong-un's daughter to demonstrate its hereditary intentions"

Minister of Unification Kim Young-ho stated, "North Korea's continued emphasis on Kim Jong-un's daughter is evidence that they are rushing to demonstrate their intention of succession amid difficulties."

At a press briefing held on the 6th in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, Minister Kim said, "There have been continuous signals that the North Korean authorities are facing various difficulties." He also mentioned that the withdrawal of overseas diplomatic missions, which serve as diplomatic bases, reflects the challenges in North Korean diplomacy and financial constraints.

He viewed North Korea's recent actions?such as the so-called military reconnaissance satellite launch, restoration of the DMZ guard posts (GP), and militarization of Panmunjom?as attempts to divert internal difficulties outward by escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula. He added, "We express regret over North Korea's baseless claims against our self-defensive measures and urge them to cease further provocative acts."

With North Korea planning to hold the 9th plenary meeting of the 8th Workers' Party at the end of the year, Minister Kim stated, "North Korea should shift its policy direction at the plenary meeting from military politics to livelihood politics," emphasizing, "They must face the reality that it is impossible to catch both the military and economic rabbits and make strong decisions for the economy and people's livelihood." He explained, "The government will continue efforts to manage the situation on the Korean Peninsula stably and encourage North Korea to move in the right direction," adding, "We will also work in parallel to create conditions for humanitarian aid to North Korea."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Unification plans to promote discourse on unification next year, marking the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the 'Plan for National Community Unification.' Minister Kim emphasized, "The beginning is to ensure that people are confident that unification will improve our daily lives without excessive concerns or prejudices," and stressed, "We will actively implement preparations for unification together with the public so that citizens can feel unification policies in their everyday lives."
