[One Day Walk] Walking Along the Coastal Fence on 'Gimpo Course 1'

The path follows the narrow sea channel called the "Ganghwa Strait," which flows between Gimpo land and Ganghwa Island. Originally, this path was used as a patrol route for soldiers guarding the area, but it is now also used as a walking travel route. Walking along the coastal fence, you can see agricultural scenery inside the fence and fishing scenery outside.

If you use public transportation to reach the starting point, take a bus from Gurrae Station on the Gimpo Gold Line and get off at the Daemyeong Port stop. There is also the Gimpo Maritime Park at Daemyeong Port, where you can start the course after visiting the retired landing ship Unbong, which was decommissioned in 2006. The Unbong was built in the United States in 1944 and participated in the Battle of Okinawa. It was delivered to South Korea in 1950, served in the Vietnam War, and protected Korean waters before becoming part of the ship park.

The Gimpo 1 Course begins at the northern end of Daemyeong Port. After stamping the start, as you walk along the coast, you will encounter Deokpojin, a fort built to block enemies entering the Han River. It was a naval base during the Joseon Dynasty and a strategic point on the sea route to Seoul. It played an important role in historical events such as the Byeongin Yangyo and Shinmi Yangyo. It is designated as Historic Site No. 292. The fort where the artillery was stationed is covered with tiled roofs and wooden rafters.

As you go up and down while looking at waterways and rice paddies, you will arrive at the Swaem-ri Rest Area. It is recommended to take a short break here.

Continuing on, you will reach Goyangpo. This was the place where boats traveling between Ganghwa and Gimpo docked and departed. The word "Goyang" is known to mean "large and high hill." Goyangpo is also called Wonmeoru Naru. The name Wonmeoru is a combination of "Won," meaning hill, and "Maru," meaning high place, which together became "Meoru."

Walking across the flat land while taking photos here and there, you will reach the entrance of Munsusan Fortress. Stamping the arrival here marks the end of the Gimpo 1 Course.
