Taste Testing Event for Goheung Rice in Jeju, Continuing to Target Jeju Market

Goheung-san Eco-friendly Dried Greens Collaboration 'Namulbap' Also Popular

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Myeong-min) announced on the 6th that it held the ‘Goheung Rice Tasting and Evaluation Event’ at the Jeju City Nonghyup Hanaro Mart Plaza, continuing its efforts to expand the market for Goheung rice in Jeju Island.

This tasting event was held as a result of the agricultural and marine specialty product market expansion agreement signed on August 22 between Goheung-gun and Jeju City, as well as between Heungyang Nonghyup and Jeju City Nonghyup, as part of the ‘Goheung-Jeju Exchange Cooperation Project.’

This event is the second Goheung rice tasting and evaluation event held in Jeju Island, following the one at Seogwipo City Nonghyup Hanaro Mart.

Despite being winter, the event was held outdoors at the Jeju City Nonghyup Hanaro Mart plaza, where the demand flash market takes place, to target a diverse consumer base and more Jeju City residents, receiving a high level of positive response.

In particular, freshly cooked vegetable rice made by combining high-quality reclaimed land rice and eco-friendly dried vegetables from Goheung added a fresh and healthy flavor to the savory taste, gaining great popularity among local Jeju residents and tourists visiting the tasting event.

A county official stated, “We will promote and strive to ensure that not only rice but also various high-quality agricultural and marine specialty products from Goheung, such as eco-friendly vegetables collaborated with Goheung rice, are loved in Jeju Island.”

He also added, “We hope that residents of both regions will take an interest so that the win-win exchange cooperation between Goheung-gun and Jeju Island can continue to yield sustainable results.”

Meanwhile, Goheung rice shipped to Jeju Island is sold in various packaging sizes of 4kg to 5kg, 10kg, and 20kg at Jeju City and Seogwipo City Nonghyup Hanaro Marts, with total sales reaching 39,034 bags, or 460 tons, as of November 30 this year.
