Unison Signs MOU with Daeyeong Chaebi for 'Renewable Energy-Linked EV Charging Service'

Unison announced on the 6th that it has signed a business agreement with Daeyeong Chaebi (hereinafter ‘Chaebi’), a company specializing in electric vehicle charging services, for the renewable energy-linked electric vehicle (EV) charging service business sector.

The company signed an electric vehicle charging service business agreement at Chaebi Gangnam Seocho Center, attended by key personnel from both companies, to enable the use of renewable energy produced by wind turbines in the electric vehicle charging system.

This business agreement was established to integrate Unison’s know-how and technology in the wind power generation sector with Chaebi’s electric vehicle charging services, which directly develop and operate the largest-scale ultra-fast and fast charging infrastructure in Korea. The goal is to supply electricity generated by wind turbines to EV charging stations, enabling 100% renewable energy-based electric vehicle charging.

This project involves storing renewable energy produced by small wind turbines in energy storage systems (ESS) and then utilizing it for electric vehicle charging. Small wind turbines and energy storage systems can be additionally installed at already established charging stations to enable renewable energy conversion.

Both companies plan to mutually cooperate to commercialize the renewable energy-linked electric vehicle charging system service by ▲ deriving a renewable energy-linked EV charging service model ▲ creating and supporting urban-type EV charging station clusters ▲ discovering and developing sites for EV charging stations.

Park Won-seo, CEO of Unison, said, “With the passage of the Distributed Energy Special Act by the National Assembly last June, renewable energy operators now have the path to sell electricity directly without going through KEPCO.” He added, “This business agreement is significant as it introduces the nation’s first EV charging station business model that integrates wind energy in cooperation with Chaebi, the No.1 company in EV charging infrastructure and services.” He further stated, “Our company will continue to discover various business models utilizing renewable energy technology to contribute to achieving the national renewable energy transition goals.”

Choi Young-hoon, CEO of Chaebi, said, “In the future, EV charging services utilizing renewable energy will become a core task of the future charging industry.” He added, “We will strive to provide cleaner and safer EV charging services together with Unison, a leading company in the wind power generation sector.”
