Professor Jeong Heewon of Seoul Asan Hospital Publishes New Book 'Habits for Aging Slowly'

"Anti-Aging Practices Recommended by a Geriatrician"

Seoul Asan Medical Center announced on the 6th that Professor Jeong Heewon of the Geriatrics Department recently published a book titled "Habits of Aging Slowly," which introduces 22 health strategies that the 4050 generation can easily practice in their daily lives.

In this book, Professor Jeong presents 22 practical strategies under the themes of eating efficiently, moving properly, and maintaining brain health, which allow for effective management of intrinsic capacity through lifestyle habit corrections.

First, Part 1, "Understanding Aging: Focus on 'Healthy' Rather Than 'Long'," explains the concepts of aging and frailty, and why we need to change our lifestyle habits immediately to age healthily. Part 2, "Eating Efficiently: You Are What You Eat, Now Compete with Quality Over Quantity," discusses the importance of eating habits and introduces personalized diets, dieting methods, and how to calculate the calories needed for one’s body.

Next, Part 3, titled "Moving Properly: Start ‘Muscle Tech’ for the Next 50 Years," emphasizes the importance of appropriate exercise tailored to oneself. The final Part 4, "Protecting Brain Health: From Breathing to Stress Management, Understand the Connection Between Brain and Body," introduces ways to find the right amount of sleep, stress management techniques, and breathing methods that relax both body and mind, discussing easy ways to manage mental health in daily life.

Professor Jeong Heewon of the Geriatrics Department at Seoul Asan Medical Center stated, "According to the 2021 life table announced by Statistics Korea, the life expectancy at age 60 is about 26 years, which is similar to the length of time a person spends working in society," adding, "This means the era of a second act in life has begun, and it is possible only when the body and mind are in a youthful state and intrinsic capacity is abundant."

Professor Jeong continued, "Through this book, I hope many people can achieve a successful second act in life by adopting healthy, slow-aging lifestyle habits that can be easily practiced if one sets their mind to it."

The author, Professor Jeong, graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine. After seeing an elderly patient in the emergency room recover remarkably within a few days after removing a specific medication from their prescriptions, she decided to specialize in geriatric medicine. She later earned a Ph.D. in medical science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) Graduate School of Medical Science and currently serves as a professor in the Geriatrics Department at Seoul Asan Medical Center.
