Guro-gu Holds 2023 'Volunteer Day' Commemoration Event

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) held the 2023 ‘Volunteer Day’ commemorative event on the 5th at the Guro-gu Community Center.

Volunteer Day is a statutory commemorative day established by the Framework Act on Volunteer Activities to promote participation in volunteer activities and boost the morale of volunteers, observed annually on December 5th.

The district announced on the 6th that it held the Volunteer Day commemorative event to encourage and express gratitude to outstanding volunteers and organizations, awarding commendation certificates, plaques of appreciation, and certification plaques and medals to a total of 161 people.

This year’s commemorative event was attended by about 300 people, including District Mayor Moon Heon-il, key figures, and individual and group volunteers. The program began with a congratulatory magic performance by magician Kim Hae-seong, followed by the opening ceremony and national anthem, the mayor’s congratulatory speech, words of encouragement, viewing of the 2023 volunteer activity video, and the awards ceremony for outstanding contributors.

On this day, the district presented commendation certificates to 30 individual volunteers, 7 representatives of exemplary volunteer organizations, and 6 excellent managers of volunteer demand organizations, and plaques of appreciation to 7 volunteer sponsors. Among the 30 individual volunteers, 7 youths will receive their commendation certificates from their respective school principals.

In particular, one person who has volunteered for more than 10,000 cumulative hours was honored as a ‘Volunteer Hero’ and received a medal and a commendation certificate. Additionally, four ‘Volunteer Kings’ who volunteered for more than 5,000 hours received certification plaques, and 106 people who volunteered for more than 3,000, 2,000, and 1,000 hours were awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.

A Guro-gu official said, “We express our gratitude to those who dedicate themselves to volunteer activities for neighbors in need,” and added, “We hope that in 2024, you will continue to show warmth to those facing difficulties.”
