Minister Sergey Lavrov said as he began talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Moscow, Russia, "We have just signed a declaration on methods and means to respond to, mitigate, and offset the negative consequences of unilateral coercive measures."
He explained, "This is undoubtedly an important step to increase the joint efforts of the international community to overcome the illegal sanctions used by the United States and its allies instead of diplomacy."
The declaration signed by the two countries on this day included provisions such as "If economic losses occur due to the adoption of unilateral coercive measures, the country causing such losses must compensate," and "A roadmap must be developed to reduce international trade dependence on national currencies used to maintain the hegemony of specific countries."
Since launching the 'special military operation' in Ukraine last year, Russia has been subject to sanctions from Western countries including the United States, and Iran has faced U.S. sanctions for years due to its nuclear program development.
The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Ministers Lavrov and Amir-Abdollahian discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip caused by the war between Israel and the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, as well as prospects for restoring the Iran nuclear deal (Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action) during their talks.
