All Items Rated 'Good' in the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety Evaluation Report
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Health and Environment Research Institute has proven the reliability of its livestock product inspections.
According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 5th, the Gwangju Health Institute received a "Good" rating in all categories in the "2023 Livestock Product Testing and Inspection Agency Proficiency Evaluation" conducted by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
The proficiency evaluation is a system in which national institutions assess the testing capabilities of regional testing and inspection agencies to ensure the reliability of their inspections.
If accurate test results are produced, the agency is rated as "Good." If rated as "Caution" or "Insufficient," the agency must take corrective actions such as rectification and re-evaluation.
This year's proficiency evaluation in the livestock product sector consisted of three categories: the first test was "Quantitative test of preservatives in cheese," the second was "Quantitative test of bacterial count in livestock product microorganisms," and the third was "Quantitative test of pesticides in eggs." The Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute received a "Good" rating in all categories, recognizing the accuracy and reliability of its test results.
The Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute conducts year-round inspections of all livestock products produced and distributed locally, including meat, eggs, milk, and processed livestock products, testing for residual substances such as preservatives, antibiotics, and pesticides, as well as microorganisms like food poisoning bacteria and bacterial counts to provide safe livestock food to citizens.
In addition, hygiene monitoring is conducted daily or periodically for production farms, facilities implementing the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, and slaughterhouses.
Yoon Byung-cheol, Director of the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory at the Gwangju Health and Environment Research Institute, said, "Safety inspections of livestock products are a very important procedure that can prevent hygiene problems that may occur throughout the production and distribution process in advance," adding, "We will do our best every day to supply safe livestock products that citizens can consume with confidence."
