Choi Woo-hyung, Final Candidate for CEO of K Bank

The K Bank Executive Candidate Recommendation Committee announced on the 5th that it has selected Choi Woo-hyung, former Head of Digital & IT Division (Executive Director) at BNK Financial Group, as the final candidate for the next bank president.

The committee explained that after thoroughly reviewing internal and external candidates through procedures including document submission, qualification screening, reputation checks, and final interviews, they selected candidate Choi. He will assume office as the 4th president of K Bank following approval at the extraordinary shareholders' meeting to be held at the end of this month. Candidate Choi stated, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility and mission," and added, "I will build a K Bank that grows together with its customers."

Born in 1966, candidate Choi graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Economics and completed a master's degree in Financial Management at Seoul National University Graduate School of Business. He obtained his Certified Public Accountant license while still in school. After joining Hana Bank in 1992 and gaining experience in the financial industry, he moved to the IT sector, working at Samsung SDS and global strategy consulting firms Accenture and IBM. Since 2018, he has led the digital division at BNK Financial Group.

Candidate Choi worked at Hana Bank for about nine years, gaining experience in credit management, foreign exchange, and corporate banking (IB). Later, at Accenture and IBM, he promoted banking IT transformation consulting, system integration (SI), and next-generation financial businesses such as financial AI and blockchain. With 17 years of IT consulting experience in the financial sector, he is regarded as a strategist proficient in both finance and IT technology.

At BNK Financial Group, he established the group's digital strategy and led the group's expansion into the metropolitan area with a focus on non-face-to-face finance. Notably, he spearheaded the country's first cloud migration of a financial company's big data platform and applied robotic process automation (RPA) to branch and head office operations, achieving innovation in customer experience through digital technology.

A K Bank Executive Candidate Recommendation Committee official said, "Candidate Choi possesses diverse experience and extensive knowledge of finance, presents a vision for internet banking, and meets all the qualifications for K Bank president, including public interest and sound management." He added, "Moreover, his high understanding of IT, finance, management, and overall finance makes him the right candidate for the bank president."
