'Yongin, Siheung, and Yangpyeong' Selected as Outstanding Cities and Counties for Clean Gyeonggi Initiative Officials from institutions attending the '2023 Clean Gyeonggi City and County Evaluation,' conducted annually by Gyeonggi Province, are taking a commemorative photo.

In the ‘2023 Clean Gyeonggi Making City and County Evaluation’ conducted by Gyeonggi Province, Yongin-si, Siheung-si, and Yangpyeong-gun were selected as the best local governments.

Gyeonggi Province annually divides the 31 cities and counties within the province into three groups based on population size and selects and awards outstanding local governments through an evaluation of qualitative presentations on excellent cases for reducing household waste by city and county, as well as a quantitative evaluation based on 14 indicators in the household waste sector.

In this year’s evaluation, Yongin-si received the top award in Group A, Siheung-si in Group B, and Yangpyeong-gun in Group C.

Yongin-si, Siheung-si, and Yangpyeong-gun, selected as the best local governments, will each be granted 150 million KRW in prize project funds.

Gyeonggi Province explained that this year’s evaluation focused on reducing household waste generation, improving recycling rates, strengthening crackdowns on illegal activities and publicity, and expanding resident participation.

In particular, starting this year, a bonus point item for ‘Promotion of policies to reduce single-use items in public institutions’ was introduced in the qualitative evaluation, confirming the initiatives of 16 cities and counties such as promoting single-use item-free offices and local festivals, and establishing a reusable cup rental system within government buildings.

Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate Environment and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Based on this year’s evaluation results, we will strive to improve the evaluation indicators more substantively next year to ensure that residents do not experience inconvenience caused by household waste."
