The cumulative transaction amount of ideas through the Korea Intellectual Property Office's (KIPO) online platform ‘Idea-ro’ has exceeded 200 million KRW.

According to KIPO on the 4th, Idea-ro was launched in March 2021 and, as of October this year, has over 15,000 registered members actively participating. There are 6,602 registered ideas, and 509 ideas have been actually transacted. The cumulative transaction amount of ideas surpassed 200 million KRW for the first time this year.

Based on this achievement, KIPO is holding the ‘1st Idea Day’ event to promote idea transactions at Seongam Art Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the same day.

The event will share outstanding cases that have led the activation of idea transactions so far, research results on idea protection and utilization methods, and will also include awards for contributions to idea transactions and the national idea competition award ceremony.

The award for contributions to idea transactions was introduced for the first time this year. The awards will be given to organizations that contributed to the activation of idea transactions, with two commendations from the Commissioner of KIPO and two from the President of the Korea Invention Promotion Association.

On this day, the Commissioner of KIPO’s commendations were awarded to Barup Co., Ltd. and the Korea Land and Housing Safety Management Institute. Barup proposed the idea of a ‘cleaning cart inside train carriages’ through Idea-ro and signed a supply contract with Korail Tech Co., Ltd. and others. The proposed idea was devised to improve the working environment of elderly cleaning workers.

The Korea Land and Housing Safety Management Institute was recognized for its contribution to activating idea transactions by soliciting 74 tasks in areas such as construction and facility safety management on Idea-ro and purchasing 123 ideas from the public.

KIPO also took the opportunity to present the appointment letter to Professor Dennis Hong, a world-renowned roboticist, as the first promotional ambassador of Idea-ro.

Professor Dennis Hong is a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UCLA and the director of RoMeLa (Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory). At the Idea Day event, Professor Hong gave a special lecture titled ‘Seeing Differently, Connecting Anew.’

Mok Seong-ho, Director of the Industrial Property Policy Bureau at KIPO, said, “We believe that various ideas are being proposed and transacted through Idea-ro, which is promoting idea activities together. We hope Idea-ro will establish itself as a platform where the public’s creative ideas solve the challenges faced by companies.”
