Incheon City announced on the 4th that it is promoting the expansion project of the Mansu Public Sewage Treatment Facility, worth 70.5 billion KRW, with the goal of completion by October 2025.
Following the approval of the private investment project implementation plan in April, the city has started the expansion project of the Mansu Sewage Treatment Facility. Of the total project cost of 70.5 billion KRW, 7.6 billion KRW will be supported by national and city funds, and the private sector will invest 62.9 billion KRW to carry out the project.
The Mansu Sewage Treatment Facility currently has a daily treatment capacity of 70,000 tons. Due to population growth from urban development projects in Nonhyeon and Seochang districts, the inflow of sewage has exceeded capacity, leading to the expansion of an additional 35,000 tons of sewage treatment capacity. The facility will be fully underground, and the upper space will be equipped with resident convenience facilities such as walking paths and grassy lawns.
Additionally, the city plans to build a sewage reuse treatment facility linked to the expanded facility to produce 50,000 tons of reclaimed water, which will be supplied as maintenance water for rivers such as Jangsucheon and Seunggicheon.
An official from Incheon City stated, "We will improve the existing image of sewage treatment facilities, which have been perceived as unpleasant and undesirable, and develop them into essential urban infrastructure that can also serve as beneficial spaces for residents."
