3300 Senior Job Opportunities to be Created Next Year in Yangcheon-gu... 700 More than This Year Working at Yangcheon-gu Happy Convenience Store

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it is operating the ‘2024 Senior Job Project’ with over 3,300 jobs to support the active retirement life of senior citizens and is recruiting participating seniors until December 15.

Next year, more than 3,300 senior jobs will be provided, a 16% increase compared to this year. By operating institution, 461 seniors will be recruited for village guardian activities at the Dong Community Centers directly operated by the district, and 2,846 seniors will be recruited for projects conducted by 12 implementing institutions, including the Yangcheon Senior Club, a senior job support organization in Yangcheon-gu.

The number of recruits by project type is ▲public interest activity jobs 2,480 ▲social service jobs 547 ▲market-type jobs 210 ▲employment placement jobs 70.

‘Public interest activity job participants’ can join if they are basic pension recipients aged 65 or older and will be assigned to volunteer jobs at public facilities such as cleaning the surroundings of Dong Community Centers, senior centers, public institutions, and traffic safety guidance at elementary schools.

‘Social service job participants’ must be 65 or older and undergo screening based on experience, certifications, activity capabilities, and health status. They will be assigned to tasks such as supporting all-day care facilities, free bicycle repairs, smart senior center education, volunteering at childcare facilities, nursing facilities, and elevator management.

‘Market-type job participants’ are anyone aged 60 or older and will participate in jobs such as Happy Convenience Store, Senior Cafe, and credit card delivery.

‘Employment placement jobs’ involve matching seniors with jobs that meet their qualifications in cooperation with private companies.

Among these, the ‘Happy Convenience Store’ is operated by the Yangcheon Senior Club, which has signed a franchise contract with a convenience store and acts as the store owner. It was newly established this year reflecting the preference of senior job seekers for store management and sales positions. As the number of ‘convenience store tribe’ customers who want small packages and small quantity purchases increases, it is making a significant contribution to building a senior job foundation.

Additionally, new jobs for next year include the ‘All-day Care Facility Support Project,’ where seniors use their parenting and life experience to care for children at local children’s centers and neighborhood care centers; the ‘Free Bicycle Repair Project,’ which provides simple repair services such as regular inspections while assisting bicycle maintenance experts; and the ‘Smart Senior Center Education Support Project,’ launched in October, which guides the use of digital devices such as kiosks and smartphones at smart senior centers.

Participants in the public interest activity project receive 290,000 KRW for 30 hours per month (within 3 hours per day), and participants in the social service project receive up to 760,000 KRW including weekly holiday pay for 60 hours of work per month. Salaries for market-type and employment placement project participants are separately determined according to labor contracts.

The recruitment period is until December 15, and applications can be submitted by visiting the Dong Community Centers and 12 implementing institutions. Public interest and social service types select participants based on a scoring table for each project type, with higher scores selected first. Market-type and employment placement participants join activities after signing labor contracts with job project implementing institutions that meet their qualifications. The selection results will be individually notified by the respective institutions.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We have expanded the scale of jobs compared to last year to provide new jobs that meet the diverse job-seeking desires of seniors as well as to secure their retirement income.” He added, “Senior jobs are a great opportunity to regain vitality in daily life through social activities and exchanges with peers, so we hope for much interest and support.”
