Jangseong-gun Goes All Out to Prevent Bedbug Spread... Conducts Pest Control Education and More

Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do is making every effort to prevent the spread of bed bugs.

According to the county on the 30th, bed bugs, blood-sucking pests that feed on human blood, do not transmit infectious diseases, but their bites cause blisters and hives, and itching appears 2 to 3 days later.

They are mainly active from midnight to dawn, and in Western countries where bed culture is well developed, they are well known as the main cause of sleepless nights. This is why their English name is bed bug.

The problem is that once they occur, it is not easy to eradicate them. Recently, they have been appearing nationwide, raising interest in bed bug control in Korea as well.

Since early this month, the county has proactively responded by purchasing disinfectants, organizing a dedicated pest control team, and establishing measures to prevent the spread of bed bugs.

On this day, a bed bug control education session was held at the 4th floor Academy Hall of the county office, conducted by a professional instructor from the Korea Pest Control Association for local social welfare facilities and pest control companies.

The county is posting flyers with bed bug prevention guidelines at senior centers, multi-use facilities, and apartments, and is conducting special inspections targeting hygiene businesses and hospitals.

Early response is the most important in bed bug control. If bed bugs are confirmed, the affected area should be immediately closed, and all clothes and bedding must be heat-dried at temperatures above 60 degrees Celsius.

Places where bed bugs can hide, such as floor and tile gaps, should be cleaned with steam or vacuum cleaners. After cleaning, the waste collected inside the vacuum cleaner should be sealed in a plastic bag and disposed of immediately.
