Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 29th that Agricultural Corporation Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. won the Grand Prize at the Rural Convergence Industry Best Practice Competition.
Agricultural Corporation Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. achieved the Grand Prize after passing the local document screening, central document and on-site screening, and concluding with the presentation screening held on the 15th.
The rural convergence industry refers to an industry where farmers or rural residents utilize tangible and intangible resources such as agricultural products, nature, and culture to combine food processing, distribution, tourism, and other service industries to create added value.
Agricultural Corporation Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. obtained certification for the rural convergence industry in 2015, and was selected in 2018 for the "Gokseong Train Ride Melon Village Rural Convergence District Development Project."
Through this, they moved beyond simple raw material production and began producing processed products by recycling by-products to enhance the added value of producing farms.
They also established the Gokseong Melon Complex Experience Center called "Melong Salon," which serves as a hub for creating rural convergence infrastructure.
Under the concept of "Play Melon! Play Farm!", they developed and operate the Gokseong Melon experience program, providing consumers with new ways to enjoy Gokseong Melon.
Reflecting consumer purchasing trends, Agricultural Corporation Gokseong Melon Co., Ltd. expanded distribution beyond traditional market channels to include not only large retailers but also online sales channels. As a result of this strategy, in May 2020, they achieved the milestone of being the first in the domestic melon production area to enter Coupang Rocket Fresh, the number one online retailer, through direct transactions.
A county official said, "Thanks to the collaboration between the corporation and the administration, Gokseong Melon has grown into a brand representing the region, achieving the meaningful accomplishment of winning the Grand Prize for the best practice in rural convergence."
