The prosecution appealed the first trial verdict that sentenced a parent in their 30s to one year in prison for entering a classroom during an elementary school lesson and strangling a teacher.
According to the legal community on the 29th, the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office filed a cross-appeal after Ms. A, a woman in her 30s who was tried on charges including injury and child abuse under the Child Welfare Act, appealed the first trial verdict.
Ms. A was indicted without detention on charges of strangling the neck and forcibly pulling the arm of female teacher Ms. B, who was teaching in a classroom at an elementary school in Incheon around 1:30 p.m. on November 18, 2021, causing injury. It was confirmed that she had visited the school with two companions after receiving notice that her son was identified as a perpetrator of school violence and would be referred to a review committee. Afterwards, she entered the classroom and verbally abused Ms. B, saying things like "You have no qualifications as a teacher" and "I will report this to the police and also tell the Office of Education and the Minister of Education." Ms. A was also charged with emotional abuse for shouting at about ten elementary students present in the classroom, asking "Who is the kid playing delinquent?"
On the 23rd, the first trial court sentenced Ms. A to one year in prison and ordered her immediate detention. Ms. A submitted an appeal to the court through her lawyer the following day.
