On the 29th, the Gwangju Nambu Police Station announced that they had apprehended a monk named A from a temple located in Songha-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, on charges including special property damage, and booked him without detention.

On the morning of the 28th, around 8:20 a.m., Mr. A recklessly drove his van and consecutively crashed into eight cars parked in an alley.

It is known that Mr. A engaged in such reckless driving after conflicts with the construction company over compensation for temple-owned land included in a development zone, and when things did not go his way.

At the time, Mr. A climbed onto his vehicle saying, "I will protest to the construction company," and when his family tried to block him to prevent an accident, he avoided them and hit the vehicles.

Police who arrived on the scene following a report from Mr. A’s child arrested him on the spot. It was confirmed that Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of Mr. A’s actions.
