Amazon Annual Cloud Computing Conference
Amazon, the world's largest e-commerce company, has unveiled its own enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, 'Amazon Q.' Following Microsoft (MS) and Google, Amazon's entry is expected to intensify the three-way competition in the enterprise AI market.
According to Bloomberg on the 28th (local time), Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon's cloud services division, held its annual cloud computing conference 'AWS re:Invent' in Las Vegas, Nevada, and introduced the enterprise AI chatbot Q.
Unlike Google and MS, Q targets enterprise consumers rather than the general public. Q will serve as an AI assistant that enhances productivity by performing employees' daily tasks such as document summarization and work messenger conversations.
Adam Selipsky, CEO of AWS, explained, "This chatbot automatically modifies source code, reducing the tasks developers need to perform, and can connect to more than 40 enterprise products including MS 365." He added that it will be integrated not only into programs for call center staff and logistics managers but also into business intelligence that supports corporate decision-making through data analysis.
Earlier, Google and MS entered the enterprise AI chatbot market by launching AI chatbots 'Duet AI' and 'M365 Copilot' in August and earlier this month, respectively.
With Amazon joining, the AI chatbot competition among the world's top three cloud companies?MS, Google, and Amazon?is expected to become even fiercer. Currently, Amazon holds about 40% of the global cloud market, while MS and Google hold approximately 20% and 10%, respectively.
Amazon has been dominant in the cloud market but has lagged in the early AI competition. However, it is striving to regain competitiveness by making a strategic $4 billion investment in Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI.
Unlike MS and Google, which first released general-purpose chatbots, Amazon's strategy is to focus on enterprise chatbots to reclaim market share. To this end, it has set a lower price than its competitors. The price of Q is $20 per user per month, cheaper than MS and Google ($30 per user per month).
MS established a strong partnership by investing $13 billion in OpenAI, which sparked the global AI craze with ChatGPT. At the annual conference 'Ignite 2023' held on the 15th, MS unveiled AI chips 'Mia 100' and 'Cobalt 100,' adding semiconductor design capabilities to its portfolio. MS aims to reduce dependence on companies like Nvidia and secure an optimized cost structure by owning its own AI chips.
