From December to March next year, Temporary Worker Waiting Area Operated Near Exit 2 of Sinjeongnegeori Station and in Front of Sinwol 3-dong Post Office... Mobile Tents and Heaters Installed to Block Cold Waves, Two Safety Management Personnel Assigned per Shelter
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) will operate the "Dawn Labor Market Winter Shelter" at two locations near Exit 2 of Sinjeongnegeori Station and in front of Sinwol 3-dong Post Office from the 1st of next month until March of next year to improve the harsh waiting environment for construction day laborers seeking jobs outdoors during the winter cold wave.
The district has been operating winter dawn shelters at two locations where the dawn labor market naturally formed with many construction day laborers gathering: Sinjeongnegeori Square and in front of Sinwol 3-dong Post Office since 2009. As a result of operating the winter shelter for about four months from December last year to March this year, an average of about 100 people per day, totaling approximately 7,600 people, visited the shelter.
Before opening this winter shelter, the district installed temporary tents and heating devices (stoves) at the sites to block the cold wave, and assigned two shelter managers responsible for safety management, maintaining order, and operation at each shelter.
The shelter will operate for four months from the 1st of next month until March of next year, with operating hours from 4:30 AM to 6:30 AM Monday through Saturday for two hours, and will not operate on Sundays and public holidays.
Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "In a situation where job-seeking conditions are difficult due to the downturn in the construction industry, we have opened the Dawn Labor Market Winter Shelter to provide workers with a somewhat warmer job-seeking environment. We hope you start your work safely and energetically."
