Jeonnam Fire Department Paramedics' Competence Proven 'Nation's Best' Level Again

National Fire Agency Hosts 'Disaster Site Training Evaluation' Ranked No.1 Nationwide

Following June's Nationwide First Place in Emergency Medical Tactics, Consecutive Honors Achieved

The capabilities of Jeonnam Fire Department paramedics have been repeatedly proven to be the best in the nation.

Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Hong Young-geun) announced on the 28th that they ranked first nationwide in the ‘2023 Disaster Site Emergency Response Training Evaluation’ hosted by the National Fire Agency.

This achievement follows their first-place award in the emergency medical tactics category at the National Fire Technology Competition held in June.

The Disaster Site Emergency Response Training Evaluation assesses the emergency response capabilities of paramedics at large-scale disaster scenes with multiple casualties. It is conducted annually on a nationwide scale.

The evaluation verifies the paramedics’ ability to triage patients by severity, provide emergency treatment, perform duties at on-site emergency medical stations, handle multiple casualties, and establish cooperative systems with related agencies to ensure integrated response capabilities.

The training was conducted on September 21 at Kidsrara Theme Park in Dogok-myeon, Hwasun-gun, simulating a scenario where a helicopter crash caused building collapse resulting in numerous casualties.

More than 130 personnel from nine organizations including the county office, public health center, police, and Korea Electric Power Corporation participated, with a particularly significant role played by the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters Emergency Command Unit, which was launched nationwide for the first time this year.

The Jeonnam Fire Emergency Command Unit was established through an organizational restructuring in July following the Itaewon tragedy. It performs roles of commanding, coordinating, and controlling scenes with multiple casualties.

Chief Hong Young-geun stated, “I believe this achievement is the fruit of the sweat and dedication our personnel have put into training. In actual large-scale disasters, please do your best to protect the lives of residents by performing seamless on-site command and control.”
