Dongdaemun-gu Expands Exchange with Catalonia Regional Government of Spain

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun District Office, attended the opening ceremony of the Catalonia Regional Government Seoul Representative Office held in Susong-dong, Jongno-gu on the 27th.

The event was attended by Pere Aragon?s, Governor of Catalonia, Guillermo Kirkpatrick, Spanish Ambassador to Korea, and Miguel Corominas Ayaya, professor at Catalonia Polytechnic University.

The district participated in the world's largest smart city expo, Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) 2023, held in Barcelona, Spain on the 7th. There, the district delegation promised to exchange information and maintain continuous relations with officials from the Catalonia Regional Government to strengthen the global smart city network.

On this day, Mayor Lee strengthened friendly cooperative relations with Governor Pere Aragon?s and exchanged opinions with EU ambassadors attending the opening ceremony, Catalonia academic experts, on Dongdaemun-gu's smart city platform, "Meta Green Smart City," and strategies connecting carbon neutrality and smart cities.

The district stated its intention to use this meeting as a stepping stone to refer to Catalonia's innovative policies, maintain close cooperative relations, and achieve practical exchanges. In particular, it is expected that Catalonia's urban morphology data can be referenced for the Cheongnyangni complex development and the creation of a global TOP5 traditional market.
