Liu, an ordinary rural housewife with three sons and one daughter, always held a dream in her heart since childhood of traveling across the country on a motorcycle. Accordingly, Liu hurriedly obtained her motorcycle license in August last year and set off on her journey on December 27 of the same year on a used motorcycle bought by her children.
At first, she planned to head north on her motorcycle, but her children worried that it might snow, so she changed her travel route. Starting from Guangzhou on her motorcycle, she rode 800 km nonstop for three days.
Passing through Maoming and arriving at the Xiujiang River, Liu took a boat to Haikou in Hainan Province and then reached Sanya City by motorcycle. She traveled to each city in this way, then returned home to attend her second son's wedding and celebrate the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year).
According to reports, Liu recalled the moment of her first trip, saying, "I was quite nervous the first day I rode the motorcycle. Still, I decided to stick to one principle: reduce speed."
She also traveled to various cities in this way before returning home for her second son's wedding and the Chinese New Year, 'Chunje.'
On her journey, she covered about 10,000 km by motorcycle over roughly a month, traveling from Zhanjiang to Guangxi, Hunan, and Hubei. On May 9, she departed from Huzhou in Zhejiang Province, passing through Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, and Chongqing, finally reaching her first destination, Sichuan.
Upon arriving in Sichuan, she met local motorcycle enthusiasts who were traveling to Xizang (Tibet) by motorcycle. Liu, who was not much older than them, gained courage and planned to go to Xizang, known as the 'Roof of the World,' with an average altitude exceeding 4,000 meters. Eventually, she took the '318 Chuan-Zang' National Highway connecting Sichuan to Xizang and finally arrived in Lhasa, Xizang.
In this way, Liu traveled a cumulative distance of 36,000 km and personally visited three-quarters of all cities in China. Notably, she self-taught video editing skills and uploaded videos under the name 'Motorcycle Grandma,' gaining 60,000 followers.
Liu expressed her gratitude for many kind people she met during her travels, including young riders who checked her motorcycle, fellow women riders who traveled with her, and those who provided snacks and oxygen packs.
She took photos and videos during her travels and posted them on social media under the name 'Motorcycle Grandma.' These videos attracted great interest among young Chinese netizens, surpassing 60,000 followers.
Liu told the media, "There are still a quarter of the cities in China I haven't visited yet," and said she will continue her motorcycle travels until she has visited all cities and as long as her health permits.
