"A World Where Working More Than 5 Days Is Not Necessary Will Come"
Microsoft (MS) founder Bill Gates predicted that as artificial intelligence (AI) technology advances, it may become possible to work only three days a week instead of five.
Gates recently appeared on a popular American MC Trevor Noah's podcast and responded to the question, "Isn't AI eliminating human jobs?"
Gates said, "Someday, there may come an era when humans don't need to work so hard," adding, "Maybe working three days a week will be enough." He went on to predict, "A world will come where machines make all the food and goods, so people won't need to work more than five days a week to earn a living."
Gates is a leading AI optimist who argues that the positive functions of AI outweigh the negatives. In July, he also posted on his blog, saying, "The impact of AI may not be as dramatic as the Industrial Revolution, but it will be more shocking than the spread of PCs in the 1980s," and "It has brought significant changes that employers and employees must adapt to."
Bill Gates Predicts "AI Will Solve Private Education Cost Issues"
He also claimed that AI could help resolve educational inequality. Gates attended the 'ASU+GSV Summit' held in San Diego, USA, last April and said, "AI will have the ability to become a tutor as excellent as a human."
He stated, "The current AI chatbots' reading and writing skills are incredibly fluent," and added, "You will be amazed when you see how AI helps with reading and provides feedback on writing."
He further predicted, "In just 18 months, AI will come in as an assistant to teachers and provide feedback on writing." Gates said that since the cost of hiring a private tutor is too expensive for most students, the advancement of AI will reduce private education costs and contribute to educational equality.
