Yeongdeungpo-gu to Host Ballet Performance with Commentary Moon Hoon-sook, Director of Universal Ballet Company

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon), the only legally designated cultural city in Seoul by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is attracting attention by providing residents with various opportunities to experience culture and the arts.

The district announced that on the 29th at 5 p.m., it will present the ballet performance with commentary, "Moon Hoon-sook's Ballet Story," at the Yeongdeungpo Art Square.

"Moon Hoon-sook's Ballet Story" is narrated by Moon Hoon-sook, the director of Korea's leading Universal Ballet Company, which boasts a 39-year history. The audience can learn about the process of creating ballet, changes in pointe shoes, the history of ballet development according to skirt length changes, and ballet mime stories that make ballet more enjoyable, all while watching live ballet demonstrations by dancers up close. In particular, the high-level ballet performances by the Universal Ballet Company's Junior Company prodigies, who will lead the next generation of ballet, are expected to deeply move the audience.

Following the commentary, a pas de deux (a duet) performed by female and male dancers from Tchaikovsky's "The Sleeping Beauty," one of the three great classical ballets, will be presented.

The performance is free of charge. Viewers can attend by pre-registering through the district website → News → Our District News bulletin board or by registering on-site on the day of the performance.

The district is leading efforts to lower the barriers to exhibitions and performances by organizing various exhibitions and concerts, including planned exhibitions, classical music with commentary, and jazz concerts centered around the Yeongdeungpo Art Square.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, "This performance, which combines enchanting melodies and dazzling movements with commentary, will be a time to become more familiar with ballet, which has often felt difficult." He added, "We will continue to expand residents' participation in and enjoyment of culture and the arts, transforming Yeongdeungpo into a premium cultural city where culture and art breathe life into everyday life."
