Actress Kim Hye-sook shed tears as she recalled her late mother.

On the 27th, at the press screening of the film '3 Days of Vacation' (directed by Yuk Sang-hyo) held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, Kim Hye-sook teared up saying, "I couldn't say what I wanted to say to my mother (while she was alive)."

The film '3 Days of Vacation', which opens on the 6th of next month, depicts the story of a mother Bok-ja (Kim Hae-sook) who comes on vacation from heaven and her daughter Jin-joo (Shin Min-a), who runs a rice restaurant using her mother's recipes.

On that day, when asked if there was something she wanted to say to her mother while filming the movie, Kim Hye-sook replied, "All children in this world are the same," adding, "I was also Jin-joo (played by Shin Min-a), and now my daughter is like Jin-joo." She continued, "Isn't that the relationship between all children and parents in the world?"

She said, "Jin-joo spoke for me in the movie. Sometimes, with the most precious person beside me, because of too much love and trust, I miss saying what I should. There is a scene where Jin-joo (Shin Min-a) says the words she couldn't say to her mother (Kim Hye-sook) later in a dream, and I also couldn't say those words to my mother," shedding tears.

Kim Hae-sook continued, "I want to say thank you, I am grateful, and I love you to (my mother). It would have been better if I had said these words while she was alive."

Shin Min-a said, "I am also someone's daughter. The feelings a daughter has toward her mother are complex yet similar. A mother is the most comfortable presence, so there is a lot of emotional expression. Jin-joo has ambivalent feelings toward her mother; although the situation is different from mine, it was easy to empathize."

She added, "I thought about how to express the universal feelings all daughters have about their mothers. I tried to empathize with Jin-joo's situation and the daughter's feelings after her mother passed away."

The screenplay was written by writer Yoo Young-ah, who penned the film 'Kim Ji-young, Born 1982' (2019), dramas 'Boyfriend' (2019), 'Thirty-Nine' (2022), and 'Sacred Divorce' (2023), and directed by Yuk Sang-hyo, who directed the film 'My Special Brother' (2019).

Director Yuk said, "My mother also passed away recently. This story feels close to me. The most basic unit of a person is family. We all love within our families and eventually leave this world."

Regarding the scene where the mother repeatedly calls her daughter but the calls are not answered, the director explained, "This film also conveys the message to answer your mother's calls well." He added, "I tried to thoughtfully connect the themes of longing, memories, and concepts within the family."
