A man in his 40s who tried to kill his brother-in-law after arguing over frequent drinking was sentenced to prison.
According to the legal community on the 27th, the 12th Criminal Division of the Gwangju District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Sang-gyu) sentenced A (43) to 1 year and 6 months in prison on charges including attempted murder.
A was brought to trial on charges of attempting to kill his brother-in-law with a weapon at an apartment in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do on July 22.
A frequently drank alcohol using the basic living allowance provided to his mother, which caused bad relations with his younger sister and brother-in-law.
The day before the incident, A called his brother-in-law while intoxicated and was scolded with remarks such as "Are you in your right mind?" Feeling disrespected, he could not control his anger and eventually planned the crime.
After preparing a weapon at his home, he went to the apartment where his brother-in-law lived. He lingered near the parking lot for about 3 hours and 40 minutes, waiting for his brother-in-law to return home, but he never appeared, so the attempt failed.
Fortunately, the brother-in-law spotted A first and avoided him, preventing the incident from occurring.
While continuing to wait for his brother-in-law, A also verbally abused and swung the weapon multiple times without any reason at a teenage female student walking within the apartment complex.
The court pointed out, "Considering that the defendant committed this crime without remorse during a probation period, there is a need for severe punishment."
