Hanwha Ocean has signed a contract to build an ultra-large ammonia carrier.
Hanwha Ocean announced on the 27th that it had secured an order for one ultra-large ammonia carrier from an Oceania region shipowner for 163 billion KRW. The vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the shipowner in the second half of 2026.
The price of the vessel ordered this time amounts to 102.55 million USD per ship when converted to dollars. This is the highest price for an ammonia carrier.
Hanwha Ocean explained that as ammonia carrier prices continue to rise, a selective order strategy focused on profitability has proven effective.
The price of the ultra-large ammonia carrier Hanwha Ocean secured two weeks ago, on the 14th, was 102.46 million USD per ship.
With this order, Hanwha Ocean has achieved 43% of its order target for this year. So far this year, it has secured a total of 16 vessels worth 3 billion USD, including 5 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, 5 ammonia carriers, and 6 special-purpose vessels.
Hanwha Ocean stated, "As the global trend toward carbon reduction increases demand for zero-carbon fuel ammonia, orders for ammonia carriers are also rising," adding, "Hanwha Ocean, which possesses the highest related technological capabilities, is expected to benefit."
