Held for three days from the 24th to the 26th at the 1st Indoor Gymnasium
The 16th National Recreational Sports Daejangsa Ssireum Tournament was held for three days from the 24th to the 26th at the Gangjin No. 1 Indoor Gymnasium.
According to Gangjin County on the 27th, the opening ceremony was attended by Hwang Kyung-soo, President of the Korea Ssireum Association, Kang Jin-won, Governor of Gangjin County, Song Jin-ho, President of the Jeonnam Sports Council, Lee Byung-don, President of the Gangjin County Sports Council, and Son Jae-geun, President of the Jeonnam Ssireum Association.

Starting with the opening declaration by Lee Byung-don, President of the Gangjin County Sports Council, the event celebrated the successful hosting of the tournament with a welcome speech by Kang Jin-won, Governor of Gangjin County, congratulatory remarks by Song Jin-ho, President of the Jeonnam Sports Council, and Son Jae-geun, President of the Jeonnam Ssireum Association. At the end of the opening ceremony, Hwang Kyung-soo, President of the Korea Ssireum Association, presented a plaque of appreciation to Kang Jin-won, Governor of Gangjin County.
The National Recreational Sports Daejangsa Ssireum Tournament was held over three days from the 24th to the 26th, with 270 players from across the country participating in matches divided into youth, middle-aged, senior, club, and student divisions.
In this tournament, Yoo Won-seok (Ansangsi) and Kang Yoon-ji (Suwon Special City) were crowned male and female Daejangsa champions, respectively.
Governor Kang Jin-won stated, “I am very pleased that the 16th National Recreational Sports Daejangsa Ssireum Tournament was held in Gangjin, and I hope that through this tournament, ssireum will gain more popularity not only here in Gangjin but throughout the nation, establishing itself as a national recreational sport.”
He added, “Gangjin County, which received the highest award in this year’s Jeonnam Province training camp hosting evaluation, is not only establishing itself as a sports mecca but also is filled with healing tourist destinations as the No. 1 spot for exploring the southern region. I hope you fully experience the charm of Gangjin.”
