Minister Yoon In-chon Seeks Solutions to Support the Cartoon and Webtoon Industry

Meeting with Stakeholders to Discuss Industrial Development Strategies

On the afternoon of the 27th, Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will meet with comic and webtoon industry stakeholders at Jaedam Media to gather opinions for establishing strategies to foster the related industry. The meeting will be attended by a large number of creators as well as representatives from companies, associations, organizations, and public institutions. Among them are Lee Hyun-se, the author of "Gongpo-ui Oeingudan" (The Fearsome Foreign Baseball Team), Bae Jin-su, the author of "Money Game," Joo Dong-geun, the author of "Now Our School Is," as well as representatives from Naver Webtoon, Kakao Entertainment, Dillyhub, Jaedam Media, Kenaz, To You Dream, the Korea Cartoonists Association, the Korea Webtoon Industry Association, the Regional Cartoon Organizations Federation, and the Korea Creative Content Agency.

Minister Yoo is focusing on the potential of comics and webtoons as sources of intellectual property (IP). To develop field-oriented policies, he seeks opinions on restructuring support systems, expanding IP commercialization, and creating a mutually beneficial environment for creation and distribution. He also explores measures to respond to intensified global competition and changes in creation and production environments as the related industry grows. Minister Yoo stated, "From the perspective of advancing the comic and webtoon industry, we will establish the status and competitiveness of the webtoon homeland through systematic support."
