Dexter Studio Wins Technical Award for VFX in Movie 'The Moon'

Dexter Studio claimed the Blue Dragon Film Award trophy, demonstrating its continued strength as a post-production powerhouse.

Content production company Dexter Studio announced on the 27th that supervisor Jin Jong-hyun, who oversaw the VFX for the film 'The Moon,' received the Technical Award at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards held on the 24th. Dexter Studio collaborated on the film's VFX, VP, DI&DIT, and SOUND.

'The Moon' is a film depicting the desperate struggle of former space center chief Jae-guk and NASA manned lunar orbiter main director Yoon Moon-young to rescue astronaut Sun-woo, who is isolated alone on the moon. Due to the genre's nature, the visuals were designed to reduce informational errors based on scientific facts while incorporating imaginative and original visuals.

Jin Jong-hyun, VFX supervisor at Dexter Studio, said, "We focused on creating work that allows the audience to vividly experience space and events that are difficult to realistically encounter," adding, "We strived to express K-SF through scientific space exploration and visual design."

He continued, "Dexter Studio and its subsidiary LiveTone actively collaborated to take charge of the entire post-production process, including visual effects, virtual production, digital color grading, and sound," adding, "South Korea is a country with high entry barriers for the SF genre, so participating in a large-scale project like 'The Moon' was a meaningful experience."

Supervisor Jin Jong-hyun previously received the Technical Award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards for the films 'Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds' in 2018 and 'Ashfall' in 2020.
