Gumi-si to Build Multipurpose Complex Center in National 3 Industrial Complex ... 6 Billion Won Invested

Selected for Regional Investment Attraction Environment Improvement Contest Hosted by Ministry of the Interior and Safety

Creation of Parking Tower, Conference Hall, and Exhibition Center to Strengthen Industrial Complex Competitiveness

Gumi City in Gyeongbuk secured 2 billion KRW in national funding after being selected in the ‘Regional Investment Attraction Environment Improvement Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last November.

Gumi-si to Build Multipurpose Complex Center in National 3 Industrial Complex ... 6 Billion Won Invested Gumi City Hall.

This contest, aimed at realizing a ‘Vibrant Local Era,’ was promoted to match the regional infrastructure conditions built so far with central government support systems and to discover investment projects for corporate support facilities suitable for local conditions. Three non-metropolitan local governments nationwide (Gumi City in Gyeongbuk, Ulju County in Ulsan, and Boryeong City in Chungnam) were selected.

The selected project, the construction of the Gumi National Industrial Complex 3 Multipurpose Complex Center, is being promoted to resolve the lack of corporate meeting and promotional spaces and parking difficulties for companies residing in the industrial complex. Once completed, it is expected to contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of the industrial complex and improving the working environment for employees.

The multipurpose complex center will be built with a total project cost of 6 billion KRW in Jinpyeong-dong of the 3rd Industrial Complex, including facilities such as a parking tower (with 150 parking spaces), corporate conference rooms, and an industrial exhibition hall. Additional opinions from companies residing in the industrial complex will be collected and reflected.

Gumi City, led by Mayor Kim Jang-ho, has been making every effort to attract facilities to resolve corporate difficulties and support blind spots by repeatedly visiting central government ministries to secure selection in the contest.

Kim Young-sik, a member of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Special Committee (representing Gumi City, District 2), also made significant contributions to attracting the contest project by directly meeting with central government officials to persuade them of the necessity of the project.

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “Although 60% of all civil complaints in Gumi City are related to traffic, securing even one parking space requires a budget of tens of millions of KRW, making it difficult to alleviate citizens’ inconveniences. We expect that this regional investment attraction environment improvement contest will help restore vitality to small and medium-sized enterprises and workers in the Gumi National Industrial Complex 3.”

To resolve citizens’ complaints caused by illegal parking and parking difficulties, Gumi City is constructing underground parking lots at Gupyeong Plaza (Gupyeong-dong) and Uhahng Park (Sandong-eup). Additionally, the construction of a parking tower in Bonggok-dong was selected for the 2024 Gyeongbuk Province Parking Environment Improvement Support Project, accelerating efforts to secure national and provincial funding for parking lot construction.
