BGF Retail Donates Pepero Day Product Profits to Stray Animal Organizations

BGF Retail, the operator of CU, announced on the 26th that it donated a portion of the profits from a differentiated Pepero Day product designed with photos of employees' pets (dogs and cats) to animal welfare organizations.

The total donation amount is 10 million KRW, and the recipients are two organizations: ‘Aesin Dongsan’ and ‘Animal Rights Action Kara.’ Animal Rights Action Kara is a nonprofit corporation established to protect animal rights and operates its own affiliated institutions. Aesin Dongsan is a private shelter for abandoned animals, protecting about 300 abandoned dogs and cats.

CU released a product that employees could plan together, hoping that many employees would participate in sharing activities. In July, through an internal contest with a competition rate of 16 to 1, a total of 20 employees’ pets were selected, and their photos were used on the product packaging. The product included dog and cat-related goods such as bibs, bundled together with Pepero. These products sold a total of 20,000 units during the recent Pepero Day event, gaining popularity among pet families.

Lee Eun-gwan, head of the Strategy MD Team at BGF Retail, said, “We gathered the intentions of each employee to prepare this donation to help protect and adopt abandoned animals,” and added, “CU will continue to strive to be a good friend to our society through various sharing activities linked to our products.”
