The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award for the 'Fire Hydrant Notification Navigation Service,' created in collaboration with a commercial navigation company for the first time nationwide.
On the 26th, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced that the Fire Hydrant Notification Navigation Service won the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the '2023 Ministry of the Interior and Safety Government Innovation Best Practice Championship' held on the 24th at BEXCO in Busan, with participation from central government, local governments, and public institutions.
Previously, the Fire and Disaster Headquarters partnered with Tmap and KT Onnavi, navigation applications used nationwide, to incorporate public data information on approximately 200,000 fire hydrants across the country into the navigation apps.
The Fire Hydrant Notification Navigation alerts drivers in real-time about illegal parking near fire hydrants by issuing a voice message saying, "There is a no-parking enforcement zone ahead. Please be cautious of enforcement," when a vehicle parks within 5 meters of a fire hydrant.
Additionally, it provides a 'Nationwide Fire Hydrant Route Guidance Service' that shows fire hydrant locations in order of shortest distance, supporting fire trucks to quickly access water supply. This route guidance service is also useful for administrative agencies to promptly receive water supply.
Jo Sunho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "The collaboration between Gyeonggi-do and navigation companies is a model case for building a national safety net using public data," adding, "We will continue to attempt qualitative changes in fire services for public safety through ongoing public-private cooperation."
Meanwhile, Kwon Ohdeok, a fire captain who received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the competition, donated the prize money of 1 million won to the Gyeonggi Fire Department’s love-sharing program, the 'Warm Companion Gyeonggi119' campaign.
