Consuming Only Bulloyu After Admission to Haneulgung
An man in his 80s who was admitted to 'Haneulgung,' a religious facility associated with Heo Kyung-young, the honorary representative of the National Revolutionary Party, was found dead, prompting a police investigation.
According to police and fire authorities on the 26th, a 119 emergency call was received around 10:30 a.m. on the 23rd, reporting, "My father has passed away. He drank milk provided by Haneulgung."
Police and fire authorities who responded to the call discovered the deceased man, identified as Mr. A in his 80s, on the second floor of a motel operated by Haneulgung in Jangheung-myeon, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi Province. There was unfinished milk nearby.
Mr. A, a follower of Representative Heo Kyung-young, was confirmed to have recently been admitted to Haneulgung along with his wife.
The couple reportedly purchased the milk product called 'Bulloyu,' sold by Haneulgung, and after admission, they consumed no other food except Bulloyu.
Bulloyu is characterized by shouting the name 'Heo Kyung-young' and storing it at room temperature. It is claimed that simply shouting Heo's name imbues the milk with his energy, preventing it from spoiling.
Haneulgung claims that "Bulloyu does not spoil and drinking it cures all diseases," and sells it to followers.
A police official explained, "Mr. A had a chronic illness and was living in a nursing home with his wife before recently being admitted to Haneulgung."
A representative from Haneulgung told the press, "(Mr. A) had only been admitted for two days," adding, "It is difficult to provide exact details."
During the 20th presidential election, Representative Heo was accused of spreading false information by claiming he was the adopted son of Lee Byung-chul, the former chairman of Samsung Group, and that he had served as an unofficial policy advisor to former President Park Chung-hee.
The National Election Commission deemed Heo's statements false and filed charges against him for violating the Public Official Election Act with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in April last year.
Previously, during the 2007 presidential election, Heo was sentenced to one year and six months in prison after making statements such as "If I become president, I will marry former Grand National Party leader Park Geun-hye" and "I attended President George Bush's inauguration dinner as Korea's representative."
