Whether Surrogacy Was Used Is Still Unknown
Paris Hilton (42), the 'heiress' of the global hotel chain Hilton Group, has given birth to a daughter. This comes 11 months after having a son through surrogacy.
On the day, Hilton posted on her Instagram account a photo of a pink baby outfit embroidered with the word 'London.' 'London' is known to be the baby's name.
Following the news of Hilton's daughter, congratulatory comments using the mother and daughter's names, saying "Paris and London," poured in. On TikTok, Hilton also responded to a fan's comment congratulating her on the birth of her daughter by saying, "My princess has arrived."
Hilton married writer and venture capitalist Carter Reum (42) in November 2021, and announced in January this year that they had their first son, 'Phoenix.'
At that time, foreign media reported that Hilton had her first child through a surrogate. In an interview with a fashion magazine, Hilton explained her choice of surrogacy, saying, "When I was on the reality show 'The Simple Life,' I had to be beside a woman during childbirth, and I was greatly shocked by it," adding, "I desperately want a family, but the physical aspect was a problem." She also said, "I am very scared. Childbirth and death are the two things in the world that scare me the most."
It is not yet known whether this recent birth was through surrogacy.
Increasing Trend of Surrogacy Births
Recently, surrogacy births have been on the rise in the United States. Former figure skating star Tara Lipinski revealed in August that she had a daughter through surrogacy. Lipinski is a star who won the women's figure skating singles gold medal at the 1998 Nagano Olympics at the age of 15, defeating Michelle Kwan.
Surrogacy births are highly controversial due to ethical issues, but some countries allow it. The UK and Australia have legalized surrogacy, and some states in the US and Canada recognize it.
