According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) on the 24th, Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, where company S is located, announced that the local government of Yangju City is currently suspending sales and recalling two types of 'eco-friendly disposable plates' manufactured by S, including 10-pack and 16-pack products.

Total migration refers to the amount of polypropylene substances that migrate from the container into food when the container is used. Non-compliance with total migration means that when food is placed in the product, the raw material of the container migrates into the food exceeding the standard limit. The products in question are all made of polypropylene (PP) material.

The test measures total migration by contacting the product with 4% acetic acid, with the standard limit set at 30 mg/L or less. Test results showed that the 10-pack product subject to recall had a total migration of 474 mg/L, which is 15.8 times the standard, and the 16-pack product had 82 mg/L, which is 2.73 times the standard. These products are manufactured exclusively for household goods stores.

The manufacturing dates are October 11 and November 6, 2023, for the product with a diameter of 14 cm. Another eco-friendly disposable plate 16-pack product is labeled with manufacturing dates of October 19 and November 14, 2023, and has a diameter of 23 cm.

The MFDS urged, "Consumers who purchased these products should stop using them immediately and contact the customer service center indicated on the product or return them to the place of purchase."
