The Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST, President Kang Do-hyung) signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of marine science and technology diplomacy with the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (President Park Cheol-hee) on November 23 at KIOST (located in Yeongdo-gu, Busan).

As international issues mediated by the law of the sea are increasing, addressing national challenges and suggesting policy directions by integrating science and diplomacy have emerged as important tasks. At this juncture, the expansion of cooperation between KIOST, which possesses marine science and technology capabilities, and the Korea National Diplomatic Academy, which establishes global diplomacy and strategy, is expected to lead to strengthening the nation's maritime capabilities.
Through this memorandum of understanding, the two institutions plan to strengthen ▲ development of education and research programs related to marine science and technology diplomacy and establishment of a mutual cooperation foundation ▲ exchange of information and personnel in marine science and technology diplomacy and related fields ▲ joint hosting of academic events such as seminars, workshops, and conferences ▲ development and joint implementation of global marine science and technology diplomacy cooperation projects.
KIOST stated that through this memorandum of understanding, it hopes to contribute to the advancement of Korea's marine science and technology diplomacy and to collaboratively address newly emerging issues related to the law of the sea.
