On the 23rd, Seoul National University Dental Hospital conducted a 'Visiting Dental Service for Elderly Living Alone' at the Gangbuk Senior Welfare Center located in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
Hosted by Seoul National University Dental Hospital, Mirae Asset Life Insurance, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly Living Alone, the ‘Visiting Dental Service for Elderly Living Alone’ was held five times this year at senior welfare facilities in Seoul, including this event. Professor An Jung-seop of the Department of Orthodontics at Seoul National University Dental Hospital served as the head of the volunteer team. A total of 20 participants, including professors, residents, dental hygienists, dental technicians, and staff members, took part in this event.

In addition to examinations, the volunteer team provided extractions, cavity treatments, scaling, denture repairs, implant treatment planning, and oral health education. Specialists from various fields such as prosthodontics, periodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery accompanied the team to offer dental services. A total of 45 elderly patients visited for treatment, which began at 10 a.m. Going forward, medical staff will select patients requiring advanced treatment and provide free care at the hospital.
Meanwhile, through this event, Seoul National University Dental Hospital has provided visiting dental services to over 200 elderly living alone in five sessions this year alone. Since 2017, the visiting dental service has contributed to improving oral health for seniors by delivering dental care to more than 1,300 elderly individuals to date.
