Samsung C&T Wins IFLA Culture and Urban Landscape Grand Prize
Hyundai Construction Receives Excellence Award and Design Encouragement Award for Apartment Complexes
Various landscaping facilities designed and created by domestic construction companies have won multiple awards at the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Awards, the world's most prestigious landscape architecture awards. This achievement came after 433 works competed across 10 categories. In particular, in recent years, the architectural designs of domestic construction companies have proven their competitiveness by winning various awards at multiple global ceremonies, thereby enhancing the status of K-Construction.
On the 24th, leading domestic construction companies Samsung C&T Corporation and Hyundai Engineering & Construction announced that they had won a total of three awards at the ‘2023 IFLA Award’ held in Tokyo, Japan, on the 17th.
Samsung C&T won the grand prize, the highest award in the Culture and Urban Landscape category, while Hyundai Engineering & Construction received the Excellence Award in the Multi-family Housing category and the Encouragement Award in the Playground Design category.
IFLA, established in 1948, is the world's most authoritative organization in the field of landscape architecture. Every year, it selects and awards architectural projects from its 80 member countries worldwide that contribute to the creation of sustainable cities and environments. This year, 433 works competed across 10 categories.
At this year’s awards, Samsung C&T won the grand prize in the Culture and Urban Landscape category for 'Nature Gallery,' the outdoor landscaping space of Raemian Gallery (Raemian brand experience center) located in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
Raemian Nature Gallery was highly evaluated for its design value, environmental friendliness, and sustainability, as it transformed a space isolated from its surroundings into a sustainable habitat for living organisms while also creating a public garden.
The Excellence Award in the Multi-family Housing category won by Hyundai Engineering & Construction was for the landscaping of The H Xi Gaepo complex. It is characterized by creating a natural, eco-friendly space in the city that evokes the scenery of a sophisticated modern art museum.
The ‘Rabbit Playground’ at Hillstate Hong Eun Forest, which won the Encouragement Award in the Playground Design category, is the world’s first children’s play facility realized using 3D printing technology.
In addition, both companies have proven their design competitiveness in the landscaping field by sweeping various domestic and international design awards.
Just this year, Samsung C&T’s Mist Garden at Dongnae Raemian I-Park won the Asia Design Prize, followed by Raemian One Bailey’s ‘Signature Anytime’ being selected for the Good Design (GD) award. Nature Gallery also received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the Korea Landscape Awards in September.
Hyundai Engineering & Construction has swept various domestic and international design awards with the landscaping partition wall ‘H Wave Wall’ at Hillstate Pohang, including the Asia Design Prize Winner, the IDEA Design Award main prize, and becoming the first domestic construction company to be selected for the US Good Design Award.
