Busan Port Authority (BPA) will hold the "11th Busan International Port Conference (BIPC)" over two days, from the 28th to the 29th, at the 5th-floor event hall of the Busan Port International Exhibition & Convention Center (BPEX).
This year’s event, under the theme "The Era of Great Transformation, The Path We Must Take," will feature a total of five sessions and one special lecture over two days, where global shipping and port experts will engage in discussions.
To ensure a more in-depth program and smooth operation, the conference is being organized in collaboration with the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI) and the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK).
On the 28th, Session 1, titled "Global Shipping Market Conditions: From Manufacturing to Logistics," will include presentations by ▲Tim POWER, CEO of Drewry, a global shipping analysis firm, on "Key Issues in the Global Port Market," ▲Luciano GRECO, professor at the University of Padova, Italy, on "Container Shipping and Market Economy: Perspectives and Policy Challenges," and ▲Lars JENSEN, CEO of Vespucci Maritime, on "Container Shipping Market: Major Changes from 2024 to 2030."
This session will provide an opportunity to present and discuss analytical data from three different perspectives?market economy, container shipping, and ports?under the single theme of global shipping market conditions.
Session 2, under the theme "Decarbonization: A Necessity, Not a Choice for Shipping Ports," will feature presentations on ▲Green Shipping Routes: Cooperation Measures for the Spread of Alternative Fuels by Johan SVENDSEN, Program Manager at Maersk McKinney Decarbonization Center, ▲Current Status of European Decarbonization Regulations by Jorg WEBERNDORFER, Minister-Counselor at the EU Embassy in Korea, and ▲Status of Development of Eco-friendly Future Technologies by Sung Youngjae, Executive Director at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Session 3, "The Current Status of Korean Shipping Ports," will explore how the Korean shipping and port industry is responding to changes in global shipping market conditions and decarbonization.
Presentations and discussions will be held by ▲Geunseop Kim, Senior Researcher at KMI, on global condition changes and development plans for Busan Port, ▲Sang-sik Lee, CEO of Busan Container Terminal, on the new roles and growth strategies of Busan Port, and ▲Gyubong Kim, Executive Director at HMM, on the future 2D strategy of shipping companies.
On the 29th, the day will begin with Special Session 4 on "Port Development and Operation," hosted by the Korea Maritime Institute (KMI).
Chaired by Sanghee Choi, Deputy Director of KMI’s Research Department, the session will cover ▲Application Plans of BIM Technology in the Port Sector by Hyeryeong Lee, Research Specialist, ▲Global Port Productivity Trends by Sooyoung Lee, Research Specialist, and ▲Advancement Plans for Port-Related Industries by Sewon Kim, Associate Research Fellow, providing insights into various aspects of port development and operation.
The final session, Session 5, will discuss "Cutting-edge Port Technologies."
Presentations will include ▲Digital Twin and Artificial Intelligence by Oscar PERNIA, CEO of NextPort.AI, ▲New Terminal Operation Technologies by Anders DOMMESTRUP, CEO of DP World Korea, and ▲Cases of Large-scale Application of Port Construction Equipment by Jongchan Lee, Executive Director at Hyundai Engineering & Construction, sharing examples of advanced technologies applied to improve port operations.
Kang Junseok, President of BPA, said, "We expect a platform for diverse exchanges and learning based on insights and discussions from domestic and international experts," adding, "Since special sessions for the development of Busan Port and the domestic shipping and port industry are also prepared, we ask for active participation and interest from the port logistics industry."
During the pre-registration period from October 23 to November 22, about 500 people registered. Free registration will also be available on-site, and detailed schedules can be found on the BIPC website.
After attending the event, all participants who complete the satisfaction survey will have the chance to receive various souvenirs following the conclusion of sessions on both days.
