Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo District, Operates Employee Communication Bell with Staff

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that starting December 1, it will officially implement the ‘Jikgu Communication Bell,’ a platform where employees and the mayor can engage in open and candid conversations to better understand the challenges faced by frontline staff and strengthen mutual communication.

A lunch meeting with the world-renowned investor Warren Buffett recently sold for about 24.6 billion KRW, demonstrating its immense popularity. This reflects the significant value people place on conversations with mentors like Warren Buffett. Similarly, people need life mentors who can provide advice and counseling for a better life.

In response, Park Gang-su, mayor of Mapo-gu, took the initiative as a life senior and mentor to listen to employees’ difficulties and questions, offering advice and solutions by personally planning the ‘Jikgu Communication Bell.’

The ‘Jikgu Communication Bell’ means ‘direct communication between employees and the mayor.’ It serves as a bridge for employees to openly share with the mayor not only matters related to personnel, welfare, and work but also topics about culture, society, and the economy?anything they wish to discuss with a life mentor.

To make it easy and convenient for employees to use the Jikgu Communication Bell, Mapo-gu plans to display a banner on the main screen of the Saeol Administrative System and install communication boxes in the employee lounges on the 6th and 10th floors of the district office. Employees who wish to communicate with the mayor can submit their requests online or offline, and they may participate together with colleagues without any limit on the number of participants.

The content gathered through the Jikgu Communication Bell over a week will be addressed during the weekly ‘Jikgu Day.’ ‘Jikgu Day’ is a day when employees who requested the Jikgu Communication Bell meet directly with the mayor. To facilitate comfortable conversations, the mayor will adjust his schedule to meet employees at their preferred times, from snack breaks to lunch and dinner, fostering active communication.

Upon hearing this news, one employee said, “I wanted to hear the life story of Park Gang-su as a person, not just as the mayor.” They added, “Especially as Park Gang-su is an icon of self-made success, I want to receive advice on economic philosophy to prepare for a better future.”

Mapo-gu plans to use the Jikgu Communication Bell, conducted in an informal and comfortable manner, to break down barriers between generations and ranks, creating a healthy organizational culture. The fresh and diverse ideas discovered through these conversations will be utilized in employee welfare and policies for residents.

Park Gang-su, mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “As the saying goes, ‘An hour of conversation is worth more than fifty letters,’ we have launched the Jikgu Communication Bell to communicate directly with employees.” He added, “Even if it is not work-related, if you have any questions or need help, please feel free to apply anytime.”
