Canadian Prime Minister "Considers It Quite Serious"
On the 22nd (local time), a vehicle explosion occurred at a checkpoint near Niagara Falls, located between the United States and Canada. Authorities have closed the border and launched an investigation, while local media are suggesting the possibility of terrorism.
According to U.S. media including Fox News, a vehicle exploded at a border checkpoint installed on the Rainbow Bridge near Niagara Falls, New York.
Fox News, citing sources, reported that the vehicle explosion was carried out by a terrorist, and two people inside the vehicle died. One U.S. official working at the checkpoint was also injured in the explosion.
According to a video capturing the explosion, the incident occurred at the U.S. side checkpoint. A witness stated that a vehicle rushing from the U.S. direction toward the border crashed into a fence and then exploded. The flames reportedly exceeded 10 meters in height at the time of the explosion.
Following the explosion, U.S. authorities closed all four border checkpoints connecting New York State and Ontario, Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau received a report from security authorities immediately after the explosion. He appeared before the House of Commons and said he is "taking this incident very seriously."
