Gyeonggi-do Aims to Secure 4.6 Trillion Won in National Funds for 100 Major Projects Next Year Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeonggi Province (left), is meeting with Seo Sam-seok, Chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Special Committee, on the 22nd to discuss next year's national budget support.

Gyeonggi Province plans to invest a total of 4.8904 trillion KRW in national funds for 100 major projects next year and is working to secure the related budget.

On the 22nd, Yeom Tae-young, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, visited the office of Seo Sam-seok, Chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Accounts Committee, and said, "Securing national funds is essential for projects such as the direct KTX connection from Suwon to provide transportation convenience for residents of the metropolitan area and to support the issuance of Gyeonggi local currency to revitalize the neighborhood economy and restore the livelihood economy." He requested, "Please take an interest and discuss these projects during the National Assembly budget review to ensure their smooth progress."

He added, "Please actively cooperate, members of the Budget and Accounts Committee subcommittee, so that the amounts proposed by Gyeonggi Province for subsidies for low-floor bus introduction, improvement projects for natural disaster risk zones, and other measures to enhance mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups and prevent natural disaster damage are fully reflected and the projects can proceed smoothly."

Gyeonggi Province holds the position that 87.7 billion KRW in national funds is necessary to stably support the issuance of local currency that practically helps small business owners and self-employed individuals amid the ongoing economic downturn. The scale of local currency issuance for next year surveyed by Gyeonggi Province targeting 31 cities and counties is 4.3255 trillion KRW. Of this, 7% is paid as incentives to local currency users, and 87.7 billion KRW corresponds to 2% of the national fund burden. However, this budget was completely cut from next year’s government budget proposal.

Additionally, to resolve traffic congestion in the metropolitan area and ensure public transportation safety, Gyeonggi Province is demanding full reflection of budgets including 76.8 billion KRW for the Suwon-origin KTX direct connection project, 72.7 billion KRW for subsidies to introduce low-floor buses to improve mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable groups, 54.7 billion KRW for natural disaster risk zone improvement projects, 7 billion KRW for establishing an open innovation digital open lab, and 180.5 billion KRW for the metropolitan area express railroad (GTX) Line A (Paju~Samsung~Dongtan) project.

Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province plans to invest a total of 4.8904 trillion KRW in national funds for 100 major projects next year.
