Prosecution Reveals Attendance List of 'Song Young-gil Support Group' in Trial

Rep. Lee Says "Cunning Falsehood... Never Attended Meeting"

In relation to allegations that envelopes of money were circulated to support former leader Song Young-gil's election at the 2021 Democratic Party of Korea convention, the prosecution revealed the names of 21 individuals who appeared to have attended the so-called 'Song Young-gil Support Group' in court.

Among the disclosed names was Rep. Lee Yong-bin (Gwangju Gwangsan-gu Gap), who described the situation as a "serious malicious act."

On the 21st, Rep. Lee Yong-bin stated via text message, "I have already corrected the facts through public protests against the prosecution's dissemination of false information, filed complaints against the responsible prosecutor with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, and submitted petitions to the Press Arbitration Commission, among other legal warnings and responses. However, the prosecution is ignoring this and cunningly spreading falsehoods."

He added, "Immediately after the real-name report was published in August, I publicly stated multiple times that I did not attend such meetings and that there was no acceptance of any money or valuables. I strongly urge the prosecution to immediately stop targeting Democratic Party lawmakers without following proper investigative procedures, falsely accusing them, and damaging their reputations."

The prosecution, during the trial of independent lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok and former auditor Kang, who were indicted the previous day on charges of violating the Political Parties Act, disclosed the list of 21 lawmakers who attended the Song Young-gil support meeting held in April 2021 at the office of the Chairperson of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. The prosecution suspects that envelopes of money were distributed at this meeting.
